For small-scale farmers to prosper consistent business development services are key

👋.

We have been looking at different materials across challenges facing small-scale farmers in Kenya. This is because of their importance in contribution to the national food supply. In this case, we sought the dairy and soil fertility

In Nakuru County, dairy farming is one of the dominant enterprises. Outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease are common. The disease is well known among farmers. Despite this, not all farmers understand the importance of vaccines to avoid loss of animal life. Apparently, we small-scale farmers keep livestock as a source of liquidity when needs arises. This ought not to be the case as we commit to No Hunger and Poverty in Sustainable Development Goals 2030 guidelines.

Across Africa, small-scale farmers are challenged in terms of accessing correct information on soil fertility. In the Kenyan case, farmers rely on Radio to understand the correct farming practices. Nonetheless, this information is not fully packaged because the challenges on sustainable soil management practices are prevalent. Why? Farmers in some areas insist on inorganic fertilizer despite having compost manure at their disposal as an example. Incase they used the compost it would be good for our biodiversity thus our social and economic welfare.

🤔. Enough said. Lets gets to business.

Dear Farmers, let’s unite in self-help groups and seek business development service providers particularly those in the Agricultural sector. Let’s attend Farm Exhibition like the  #MkulimaExpo2020 organized by Farm Kenya at JKUAT Juja Campus between 21 to 22nd February. We will improve our knowledge and so will our risk-based control strategy like vaccines for our livestock and soil analysis for our farms. If adoption of Artificial Insemination has grown across Nakuru County then we can grow the adoption of any practices good for our farm enterprises.
