So sad. 🤔.
Most of we small farmers ought to understand that we are the future of feeding Africa. We hold the key to our financial prosperity. Despite this, we ignore and let farm enterprises on self-drive. It’s why our mango trees have outgrown recommended heights and remained unpruned. This has seen pests and diseases prevail. In the end, we make less than when we would be serious on effective mango management strategy. Let’s prune our mangoes trees, and control pests and diseases. We can earn better returns like the Masii Farmers Horticultural Cooperative Society and Karurumo Horticulture Self-help Group in Masii and Embu through YieldWise initiative.
I have travelled between Nairobi and Makutano. On your way, mangoes are displayed on the roadside. These farmers sell their produce directly to the consumer after harvest. It’s also evident that there are heaps of spoilt mangoes. Thus, there is need for farmers to develop measures to prevent mangoes postharvest losses by cooperation example forming self-help groups.
Accordingly, this seen farmers improve the bargaining power as when they sell to aggregators. When in groups it's easier to fund projects, example for Coldbot cold rooms that are quite expensive for sole rural small-scale farmers. Thus, as a farmer try out the Zero Energy Cooling Chamber that you use to aggregate your produce before taking it to your self-help group. It improves mango shelf life to nearly 2 weeks giving you time to market your produce to the highest bidder.
Let’s learn how to create a Zero Energy Cooling Chamber from the World Vegetable Center.
Our actions define our priorities. Fellow farmers let's enhance our farm management strategy for better incomes.
🤝.
